THE PLAIN DEALER, MONDAY, NOVEMBER OBITUARIES Lawrence Hadbavny, physician, teacher Lawrence T. Hadbavny was a physician i in Greater Cleveland for almost 30 years. He also was a volunteer teacher at the Hunting Valley campus of University School. Dr. Hadbavny, a resi1 dent of Pepper Pike, was a general surgeon on the staff of Huron Road Hospital, now Meridia Huron Hospital, from 1953 to 1980.

He served as vice president of the hospital in 1973 and 1974. Dr. Hadbavny, 67, died of cancer Saturday in Manor Care Nursing Home in Mayfield Heights. Hadbavny From 1968 until heart problems forced his retirement from medicine in 1980, Dr. Had7.

bavny served as the team physician at University School, often traveling with the school's teams to games as far away as Michigan and Pennsylvania. Earlier, he had served as team physician at Brush High School in South Euclid and Shaw High School in East Cleveland. After his retirement, he taught physiology anatomy as a volunteer at University School. He also took up woodworking, making a cradle for. his first grandson, and stained glass making.

A native of Cleveland, he graduated from New York Medical College in 1947 after attending Adelbert College of Western Reserve University. He served as the chief of surgery at Griffiss Air Force Base in Rome, N.Y., from 1951 to 1953 and was discharged from the Air Force as a captain. Dr. Hadbavny was a member of the College of Surgeons; Royal Academy of Surgeons; Cleveland Academy of Medicine; Ohio State Medical Society; Abdominal Surgical Society, and American Medical Association, He was a 32nd degree Mason. He served as a director of Century Federal Savings Bank since 1973.

He was appointed to the board's executive committee in 1984. He attended the Presbyterian Church of the Western Reserve in Pepper Pike. Surviving are his wife, Renee; a son, Todd, of Portland, a daughter, Linda Fernandez of Terre Haute, four grandchildren, and a sister. A memorial service will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the University School chapel.

20701 Brantley Shaker Heights. Daniel Geiger, was deacon, optometrist Dr. Daniel N. Geiger was an optometrist for 38 years, a deacon in the Catholic Church and the father of nine children. Dr.

Geiger, 63, died Friday from a heart attack. Dr. Geiger practiced optometry for nearly 20 years at the Union Eye Care Center on Pearl Rd. in Parma. Prior to that, he practiced in Cleveland.

For 1 the last two years, he lived in Middleburg Heights. He previously had lived in Berea and Cleveland. Dr. Geiger was born in Bucyrus and graduated in 1945 from St. Ignatius High School in Cleveland.

He served in the Merchant Marines and then the Navy and was stationed in Alaska during World War II. He was discharged as a chief petty officer. Dr. Geiger graduated from Ohio State's School of Optometry in 1953. His brother, Charles Geiger, said Dr.

Geiger loved to pan for gold with his family in the Arizona desert. Dr. Geiger was a deacon at St. Adelbert Catholic Church in Berea. Surviving are his wife, Lee; sons, Daniel David, James, Phillip of Columbus, and Thomas of Toledo; daughters, Jean Hartline and Margaret Gormley of Port Clinton; Lucy Musick and Mary: three stepchildren; 13 grandchildren; four brothers and a sister.

Services will be 10 a.m. tomorrow at St. Adelbert Catholic Church, 66 Adelbert Berea. DEATHS ELSEWHERE retired in 1987 after more than 30 years with the firm. He was involved in the planning and design of the Dallas-Fort Worth Airport and the redevelopment of Pennsylvania Ave.

FROM WIRE REPORTS PHILADELPHIA Brother Gregory P. Sprissler, president of LaSalle University from 1945 to 1952, died of cardiac arrest at 83. Sprissler joined LaSalle's chemistry department in 1941 and became dean of the college in 1944.

He resigned from the presidency in 1952 and taught in Baltimore for one year before returning to LaSalle as dean of the evening division. ANKARA, Turkey Dr. Kenan T. Erim, an archaeologist and professor of classics at New York University, who for 30 years led excavations of the ancient Roman city of Aphrodisias in southwestern Turkey, died at 61 of a heart attack. He lived in Princeton, N.J.Since 1961, Erim, a native of Turkey, had supervised the digging in the all-marble city, which contains a bounty of late Greco-Roman art 100 miles from the Aegean.

Aphrodisia had a wealth of marble that was used to build even workers' huts and a two-mile-long city wall, which still stands. McLEAN, Va. Thomas M. Beggs, director of the Smithsonian Institution's National Collection of Fine Arts from 1948 to 1964, died at 91 of complications from pneumonia. He organized more than 50 traveling exhibitions and arranged for artworks that had been in storage to be displayed in the federal offices, including the Oval Office in the White House.

WASHINGTON Raymond D. Hodge, a retired civil engineer who supervised projects in many parts of the world, died at 68 of rheumatoid arthritis.
