Levitating: Everything Else That Happened in Between - A Sonic X Reader - « The Fair » - Page 11 (2024)

Sonic didn't find that hard to believe. She did seem more confused than he did. Trying to think of anything that could have caused her to have that kind of reaction, Sonic looked at their surroundings. From one of the rides was exiting a group of teens. One of them had their hand over their mouth while two others were rushing toward the toilets. Turning to Y/N, Sonic suggested, "Maybe you went on too many rides."

She continued staring at the ground. By now, her breathing had returned to normal. No longer could she feel her heart hitting her chest as if it was trying to break out.

Hearing the hedgehog's suggestion, she nodded. "Maybe." She partly agreed with him. It would make sense. Sometimes in the past she had grown dizzy from spinning too much, but this was different. She had felt okay all day long until suddenly she just didn't. Closing her eyes and taking a deep breath, she finally raised her head and straightened her back. She placed her hands on her thighs and turned to the hedgehog saying, "Sorry."

"Hey, it's fine," he replied immediately. He placed his hand on Y/N's and gave her a smile. "I'm just glad you're okay."

She let out a small laugh-like exhale and smiled. She looked over to the ferris wheel that was still standing still. Its lights had started blinking again, reminding her of the fireworks that would soon be taking over the sky. Turning back to Sonic, she said, "Fireworks are gonna start soon."

"Are you sure you don't wanna go home?" Sonic asked.

She immediately shook her head, "No. We're here and I don't wanna miss it now." Glancing around them she commented, "Though, all the best spots are probably already taken."

That set off a light bulb above Sonic's head. He hadn't thought of it all day but now it made sense. "I know a spot not too far from here, if you can walk," he said to her.

Y/N didn't have to be told twice. She was immediately intrigued to see what he meant. She slapped her thighs and stood up, "Show me."

It wasn't long after when the pair were hiking in the woods. Sonic had led Y/N into the forest where they were walking uphill and toward a cliff on one of the many mountains. That cliff had been Sonic's spot to watch the fireworks during all the previous years. The thought of being able to share it with someone was exciting. He was rather surprised he hadn't taken Y/N there earlier. So far during the summer, and even slightly before it, he had shown the girl many of the places where he used to hang out. Then again, this spot was one he really only used twice a year to see the fireworks so maybe that is why he hadn't remembered it earlier.

After a while of walking in the foliage, Sonic could see the clearing in front of them. "Here," he smiled. He dashed over to the cliff where a large boulder was sitting. Jumping on top of it, he lied down on his side and flashed a smile to Y/N, "Welcome to the VIP balcony."

Y/N walked over to the boulder and attempted to climb on it. Taking support from a tree just beside it, she placed her foot against the rock and pushed herself up. Had the boulder been a few inches shorter or she just a little taller, she would have made the climb easily. However, the missing inches made her feet fall back on the ground. Trying the climb again, she found something new helping her, that being Sonic who was now reaching out for her. Taking his hand, she tried again and pushed herself up. With Sonic pulling from above, she was able to reach the top of the boulder. "Thanks," she said as she let go of him and sat down.

Sonic just gave her a smile and turned his gaze to the view they were there to see. They weren't necessarily high up from the ground, but just above most of the fair. That way all the rides could be seen spinning around below the dark sky. Y/N smiled as she saw the view. It was certainly a side to the fair she had never seen before. Colorful lights were gleaming in the distance, giving light to the surrounding darkness. Laughter and those happy screams could still be heard echoing in the distance, and so could the music and the metallic clanks and humming the rides made. They could even hear as the announcer spoke via the speakers and told that the firework show would soon be starting.

As they waited for the show to start, Sonic said, "I used to come here twice every year." Y/N turned to look at the boy whose gaze was trailing the event before them. "On the Fourth of July and then again on New Year's." His gaze turned down as he watched his shoes. There was a small, barely noticeable shy smile on his face. "I've had so much fun today. And now I'm here. I never thought I would get to share this with someone."

Ever since Sonic had come to live with Y/N and her family, there had been several moments like this. Ones during which he would talk about never believing that he would get to share moments with anyone, and that he believed that he would live his whole life alone. That was one of the reasons Y/N had been so adamant about taking him to the fair that day. She glanced at Sonic's hand which was right beside her. He was using it to lean against the rock as he waited for the show to begin. "Hey," she said softly, and the boy looked over to her. She smiled, "You'll always have someone with you. You'll never have to be alone again."

Smiling, Sonic replied, "Neither will you." Y/N's grin widened as she glanced down again. Sonic looked at her hands which were placed in her lap. "I really liked all the handholding today," he blurted out.

Y/N raised her eyebrows, "You did?" He gave her a quick nod, causing her to smile again. She reached out for his hand and he immediately understood what she meant. Smiling, the two interlocked their fingers.

It was then that they could hear music start playing from the distance. Turning their gazes over to the fair, they could see as rockets were flying up into the air. Large red and blue flashes took over the sky, clashing against the darkness. As they were overtaken by flashes of white, Y/N glanced at Sonic. She could see the reflections of the colorful explosions in his large eyes as he adored the show. Today had turned out perfect and just like she had wanted it to be. There was just one thing left to do and that wasn't hard to achieve. She quickly leaned over to the hedgehog and pressed her lips against his cheek. Quickly pulling back, she turned back to the fireworks with a large grin on her face. Sonic sat still as he felt his cheeks heat up. With that, the boy and the girl continued holding onto each other's hands as they watched the fireworks dazzle in the sky.

AN: Hello to everyone who has chosen to take the time to read this! Happy Midsummer!

Right away I'm gonna go ahead and explain this whole thing. So of course as you can see by the title, this is not Levitating 2. This is Levitating: Everything Else That Happened in Between which is a collection of individual stories taking place after the first Levitating and before Levitating 2, hence "in Between."

I got this idea for this book when I realized there was gonna be a while between the events of the first and second movie. I then wrote down ideas for several possible chapters and partially wrote some of them as well. Then I just forgot about this for a while and I only remembered it when I started writing the second book.

When talking about just this chapter alone, this idea came to me actually two years ago when I was publishing the first book. I thought the idea of Sonic going to rides at a fair with him being carried by Y/N would be like the cutest date ever. I really hope you like this whole idea.

There are gonna be at least six chapters to this book. Out of those the next three are somewhat completed and the last two are still very work in progress. Also, the rest aren't nearly as long as this one is. I don't even know how this ended up being this length. I'm not 100% sure whether I'm gonna complete this book first or if I'm gonna start publishing Levitating 2 while this one is still in progress, because you necessarily don't need to read this book to understand L2, but it makes Sonic and Y/N's relationship more understandable. If you have any thoughts on this, please let me know. Also, suggestions for chapters are welcome.

To those few of you who saw that stupid meme I called a "trailer," yes, I was gonna release the first chapter last week. Also yes, the title shown at the end is gonna be the title. The reason I didn't publish it is that my internet crashed when I tried to do it, and to me it was a sign telling me that it wasn't ready. So now I'm re-editing and rewriting stuff that felt wrong to me.

So, I think that's it. If there's anything you wanna ask, leave a comment here and I'll answer it.

Thank you for reading. I really hope you all like this book and are excited for what's to come

love y'all
