When brothers Stephen and BruceMalasky were helping their late stepmother downsize to a Palm Beach condominium, they toured a move-in ready apartment with ocean and golf-course views at 2 N. Breakers Row.

Lorraine Malasky was transitioning from the single-family home she had shared across town with her late husband, homebuilder Donald Malasky of Malasky Homes, who had died at 83 in 2019.

His sons, who now own the family company, ended up buying the Breakers Row condo — unit No. N21 — for her in October 2021 as trustees of a trust.

“Obviously as builders, we could have renovated. We’ve done numerous condos, but this was a perfect fit for her and in terrific condition,” StephenMalaskysays. “The prior sellers had it set up as an art gallery, and Lorraine’s artwork and important possessions fit beautifully.”

After Lorraine Malasky’s death at 77 on April 13, the brothersmade the decision to sell the three-bedroom, three-and-a-half-bath apartment, which has 4,068 square feet of total living space, inside and on its two terraces and balconies.

Agent Jim McCann of Premier Estate Properties has listed the condo at $9.495 million, a price that includes the furniture and art. The apartment, which will be sold with a cabana by the swimming pool, comes with garage parking for two cars and an on-site storage space.

“When my father passed, the 7,000-square-foot house that they had built for themselves (on Via Vizcaya) was too large for her,” Stephen says. “She was relieved that she could leave the home that she and our father had designed and decorated and had really found a condominium that was size-appropriate for one person.”

Lorraine wished to remain in Palm Beach, Stephen says, so “we looked at all the units in the North End of town, and this one had the nicest floor plan. It was much more open than other units in that building.”

The views of the Atlantic and golf course at The Breakers resort were also a plus, he adds: “Considering livability, views and the price, this one was the best.”

Bruce Malasky says it was also important for his stepmother to feel safe living alone — and with its attentive staff and concierge-style services, Breakers Row eliminated any safety concerns

“She felt overwhelmingly comfortable and secure there,” Stephen says.

The second-floor unit is on the north side of the north building, one of the two buildings at the Midtown complex. The layout of the apartment runs east to west.

The living and dining rooms, in the northeast corner, open to the ocean-view corner terrace. Just adjacent, the Poggenpohl kitchen is finished with white contemporary cabinetry, granite counters and backsplashes. Fitted with professional-grade SubZero and Wolf appliances, it has a tile floor.

Next to the living room, a guest bedroom suite has built-in cabinetry and serves as a den.

The main bedroom suite, withtwo walk-in closets and two bathrooms, is in the opposite corner of the apartment and shares a golf-course-view terrace with a guest bedroom suite.

Completing the layout are a laundry room and powder room.

Details include marble flooring in the main rooms and carpeting in the bedrooms. Some of the walls are finished in Venetian plaster, and a decorative fireplace serves as a focal point in the living area. Sliding doors throughout are fitted with impact glass.

Built in 1986 and north of The Breakers’ landmarked hotel building, 2 N. Breakers Row has atotal of 47 units in both buildings, which stand on land owned by the resort.Amenities include an atrium lobby, a private beach, a club room, a fitness center and 24-hour security staff.

Home to some of the most expensive condos in town, thedevelopment is known for the concierge services it offers to residents, who can order meals from TheBreakers, contract for housekeeping services and use the resort’s recreational facilities via a club membership.

“It is a Class-A condominium in every sense,” Bruce Malasky says.

His brother adds that their stepmother enjoyed her time there.

“Lorraine loved that it was peaceful and quiet, and I can’t express enough how friendly and helpful the staff is,” Stephen adds. “She did not have to worry about anything.”
