Ed Balls grills Nigel Farage on Reform UK's tax claims

Ed Balls faced backlash after coming to blows with UK Reform leader Nigel Farage on today's episode of Good Morning Britain. In the run up to the general election, the ITV breakfast show has been welcoming a number of MPs on to face a grilling from Ed and his co-star Susanna Reid.

Ed, who is a former Labour party MP, quizzed the politician on who would gain most from his personal tax proposal, out of someone on minimum wage, someone on average earnings or someone on £95,000 a year.

Farage answered saying: "People on benefits would gain the most. Their whole lives would be transformed." But Ed interrupted him as he pointed out that those on benefits wouldn't gain anything at all as they wouldn't be paying any tax.

With that, the ITV presenter repeated his original question. Clearly beginning to get rattled, Farage shook his head as he tried to answer once more.

He said: "The poorest in society would benefit the most and when it comes to raising tax bands..." But again he was cut short as Ed cut in once more.

They began to talk over each other making it unclear what the other was saying, much to the annoyance of viewers at home. Fans took to social media begging Ed to "let him speak".

One user on X (formely Twitter) wrote: "#gmb @GMB @edballs The pure hatred on your face when talking to Nigel Farage… I dare you to talk to any Labour mp the same way…..I’ll wait."

Another added: "Well that was a clusterfk of an interview. Fadge looked a bit rattled there for a minute. However, I wish Reid and Balls wouldn't parrot questions over and over and over...

"It's a waste of time in which questions could have been asked and more points could have been raised. #GMB."

A third posted: "@GMB Wow I’m disgusted with Ed and Susanna. Farage is talking about levelling up the poor and Ed thinks it okay to discard the lowest earners just because rich people will benefit too. Absolutely disgusting talk about wanting to keep the poor poor #GMB #SUPRESSTHEPOOR."

Another user added: "What a wasted opportunity to grill Nigel Farage. Ed Balls is a terrible interviewer. @GMB." A fifth said: "#GMB Suzanne and Ed are really trying to make Farage look like a prat. The more they go after him, the more people will support him."
