cabbage roll recipe | stuffed cabbage rolls | stuffed cabbage spring roll recipe with step by step photo and video recipe. snacks or starter recipes have always been labelled as oil-based recipe and hence can be unhealthy. it would be either deep-fried or tossed in oil to get the extra crisp and crunchiness with some lip-smacking taste. all these can also be with a healthier way too and steamed stuffed cabbage rolls recipe known for its taste and filling stuffing.
i have posted a lot of snacks recipes till now, but this has to be one of the healthy and tasty snack recipes. i personally believe any meal or dish prepared out of steam has to be a healthy option. we generally use or add oil to prepare it, assuming that using oil it makes a tasty dish. but there are other ways of preparing the dish too. initially, i thought of preparing this dish with bread coating and deep-frying them similar to the traditional spring roll. but gave up the idea as the leaves may open up while deep frying and also i felt it may complicate thing up. moreover, there is always this taboo attached to deep frying as it not healthy and hence i opted for the steaming option.
furthermore, some more additional tips, suggestions and variants to the stuffed cabbage rolls recipe. firstly, selecting a whole cabbage is the key to this recipe. i would not recommend using a tender cabbage for this recipe. tender cabbage may not be easy to peel the leaves one by and may break or crack. if you have a tender one, you can dip the entire cabbage in hot water for 15 minutes before using it. secondly, the stuffing can be added as per your choice and preference. i have mimicked the stuffing as minced meat with boiled meal maker which also helps to fill your stomach. but not mandatory to use it and can use as per your choice. lastly, just before serving i prepared soy sauce tempering with some spices and spring onion and poured on top of these steamed rolls. you may actually pan fry the rolls with the prepared sauce just before serving.

- 1 large cabbage
for stuffing:
- water, for boiling
- 1 tsp salt, for boiling
- 1 cup soya chunks
- 2 tbsp oil
- 2 clove garlic, finely chopped
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 4 tbsp capsicum, finely chopped
- 2 tbsp chilli sauce
- 2 tbsp vinegar
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- ¼ tsp pepper powder
- ¼ tsp salt
for the sauce:
- 3 tsp oil
- 2 clove garlic, finely chopped
- 2 chilli, finely chopped
- 1 tsp sesame seeds
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 2 tbsp spring onion, chopped
Instructions
how to separate the cabbage leaves:
firstly, separate the leaves of cabbage without tearing apart.
soak the leaves in hot water for 10 minutes. this helps leaves to turn flexible.
after 10 minutes, take a cabbage leaf and trim off the hard part. else it will be difficult to roll. keep aside.
how to make soya stuffing for roll:
firstly, in a large vessel take enough water. add 1 tsp salt and get to a boil.
now add 1 cup soya chunks and boil for 8 minutes or until the soya softens.
drain off and rinse in cold water.
squeeze off the water from soya chunks and transfer to the mixi.
pulse and blend to get the minced texture. keep aside.
in a large kadai, heat2 tbsp oil, add 2 clove garlic, 1 onion and 4 tbsp capsicum.
stir fry on high flame until onions shrink slightly.
now add 2 tbsp chilli sauce, 2 tbsp vinegar and 2 tbsp soy sauce. stir fry until the sauces are well combined.
further add minced soya,¼ tsp pepper powder and ¼ tsp salt.
saute for a minute or until the soya gets almost cooked. soya stuffing is ready. keep aside.
how to stuff and roll cabbage:
take the cabbage leaf and place 2 tbsp of prepared soya stuffing in the centre.
fold and roll to form a spring roll shape.
now place the roll into the steamer.
steam for 15 minutes or until the roll is cooked completely.
how to prepare sauce:
firstly, in a pan heat3 tsp oil. saute2 clove garlic and2 chilli for a minute.
now add1 tsp sesame seeds and saute well.
further, add 2 tbsp soy sauce and stir fry on high flame.
also, add ¾ cup water, 2 tbsp spring onion and mix well.
once the sauce comes to a boil, it ready to serve.
finally, pour the sauce over stuffed cabbage roll and enjoy.

- firstly, make sure to peel the skin of cabbage carefully, else they may break.
- also, you can skip the sauce part and just serve the cabbage roll. however, the sauce will enhance the flavour of the roll.
- additionally, you can use any vegetables in the stuffing.
- finally, stuffed cabbage roll recipe tastes great when prepared with fresh cabbage.
